Create a distribution point

The first step in deploying a MSI through GPO is to create a distribution point on the publishing server. This can be done by following these steps:

  1.  Log on to the server as an Administrator user
  2. Create a shared network folder (this folder will contain the MSI package)
  3. Set permissions on this folder in order to allow access to the distribution package
  4. Copy the SendTrusted MSI to the shared folder
  5. Create a Group Policy Object

The SendTrusted MSI is a per-machine package and should therefore be assigned per-machine. SendTrusted will then be installed silently for all computers when the machines start. In order to create an object for your package, you can follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Start button, go to Programs, select Administrative Tools and then select Group Policy Management Console
  2. Expand the tree to the domain/OU you wish to link the new GPO
  3. Right-click on your selected domain/OU and select “Create a GPO in this domain, and Link it here…”
  4. Set the name of the policy, e.g. “SendTrusted DLP Outlook”
  5. Make sure that the new GPO on the left side is selected
  6. Under the first tab called “Scope”, find the section Security Filtering”and add the wanted groups, users and computers
  7. Right-click on the new GPO and select Edit from the menu
  8. Expand Computer Configuration -> Policies -> Software Settings -> Software installation.
  9. Right-click Software Installation, select the New context menu and then click on Package
  10. In the Open dialog type the full UNC path of the shared package you want to assign (Do not use the Browse button in the Open dialog to access the UNC location. Make sure that you use the UNC path to the shared package)
  11. Click on the Open button
  12. Click on Assigned and then click OK (the package will be added to the right pane of the Group Policy window)
  13. When the client computers start up, the assigned package will be installed automatically
